Bridging Aesthetics and Performance: The Edgeless Advantage
The EWS600 features an edgeless design that enhances interior aesthetics by minimizing its visible footprint, allowing it to blend seamlessly into walls. Its frameless construction and magnetically attached grille sit flush with the speaker baffle and can be easily removed and painted to match wall colors. This focus on visual integration addresses the Wife Approval Factor (WAF), emphasizing the importance of harmonious design in modern homes.
Earthquake Sound has engineered the Edgeless series to ensure that aesthetics do not compromise audio quality. While frameless designs often struggle with bass response due to limited enclosure depth, Earthquake’s proprietary technologies, including advanced XLT geometry, enable impressive performance in a discreet form. The EWS600 thus delivers high-end audio while meeting strict aesthetic standards.
Uncompromising Sound Quality: Materials and Engineering
Beneath its aesthetically focused exterior, the EWS600 incorporates specific technical features and components designed to deliver high-fidelity audio performance. It employs a two-way driver configuration that utilizes separate drivers optimized for different parts of the frequency spectrum.
A meticulously engineered two-way driver system is at the heart of the EWS600’s audio performance. It pairs a robust 6.5-inch (165mm) woofer with a detailed 1-inch (25mm) tweeter. The woofer utilizes a low-mass, stiff ballistic-grade Kevlar cone for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. This characteristic allows the cone to move with precision and speed, minimizing distortion and contributing significantly to the speaker’s smooth, accurate, and detailed output and its ability to deliver deep, natural response in the lower frequencies.
Complementing the woofer is a swiveling 1-inch silk dome NEO tweeter. Silk is a favored material for tweeters due to its inherent ability to reproduce high frequencies with smoothness and superb sonic accuracy while avoiding the harshness sometimes associated with other metal alternatives. The Neodymium motor structure provides high magnetic flux in a compact size, enhancing efficiency and control. Furthermore, the tweeter’s swiveling capability offers practical installation flexibility. Installers can aim the high frequencies directly towards the primary listening area, optimizing imaging and detail even when placement options are constrained. This deliberate selection of Kevlar and silk, coupled with the adjustable tweeter, underscores an engineering approach focused on balanced, detailed, and adaptable sound performance, consistent with Earthquake’s audiophile principles.
Fine-Tuning and Protection
To optimize performance across diverse acoustic environments, the EWS600 incorporates features to enhance its performance, flexibility, and adaptability to different listening environments and user preferences. Because in-wall speaker performance is closely linked to room acoustics and placement, the EWS600 includes dedicated -3dB, 0dB, and +3dB adjustment switches for bass and treble regions to tailor the speaker’s sound profile. Users can compensate for less-than-ideal room-induced imbalances, like overly reflective and absorptive spaces, making it an essential tool for achieving a more satisfying sound in practical applications.
An elaborate 12dB/Octave crossover network effectively manages signal integrity and driver coordination. This network facilitates a seamless transition between the woofer and tweeter, which is vital for accurate reproduction and coherent sound staging. Additionally, the crossover is equipped with tweeter polyswitch protection, guarding it against potential damage from excessive power, thereby adding a significant layer of reliability. High-quality connections are ensured through gold-plated, spring-loaded terminals, providing a secure and corrosion-resistant interface for speaker wiring.
Installation and Application Versatility
The EWS600 is designed for straightforward integration into standard wall structures by utilizing the Turn-N-Lock™ mechanisms to simplify installation. This system employs rotating clamps or dog ears built into the speaker chassis. After the speaker is inserted into the wall cutout, turning screws on the front baffle engages these clamps, which then pivot outwards and tighten against the rear surface of the drywall, securely fastening the speaker in place. Turn-N-Lock streamlines the overall installation process from setup to finish.
Complementing the frameless speaker design is a magnetically attached grille offering practical advantages for both installation and customization. The magnetic attachment simplifies the installation process, allowing the grille to be easily snapped into place or removed without tools. Crucially, the grille is also paintable, allowing homeowners or installers to precisely match the grille color to the surrounding wall paint or decor. This further enhances the speaker’s ability to disappear visually and reinforces the seamless blend objective.
